ReplyDeleteHello! I'm Vicki Springer from Montreal and I read your blog every day! Hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteHello, blogger. I'm Andrew Turnpike and I read you!
ReplyDeleteWhy, hello! Here is time for some blogger on blogreader action, eh? I saw that their are no comments and have to tell you that you have on least a reader.
ReplyDeletesuspicious...4 people in less than 10 minutes, all anonymous? i think something's up.
ReplyDeleteif not, AWESOME!!!!
tho, if you are a spammer, i'm also honored...in a sense.
ReplyDeleteBonjour! J'essaye de lire votre journal toutes les jours, mais c'est difficile parce que tu ne fait pas ton écriture quotidien! Néanmoins, j'aime votre blog et merci pour la fais!
ReplyDeleteah. so you are a spammer! i checked out said Harry Greenwood in the whitepages and he does not exist. nice try.
ReplyDeleteО мой бог, я люблю ваш блог так много!
ReplyDeleteIm just kidding, I don't speak russion. i think its hilarius that you put everything in different languages. ohmygod. DO people who speak other languages read this!? Who, thats so cool! mabye I should start a blog!
I'm not a spammer! My name is Lee Thuna of New York! I just wanted to let you know how much I love your blog! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know about those other anonymous comments, but I came across this blog because I also love the book Lies My Teacher Told Me. I hope you continue. I find it really interesting.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to correct you about your most recent post. When you said that Harry Greenwood does not exist it sounded hard to believe to me. I checked the Helena whitepages and found 5 different Harry Greenwoods. I would suggest knowing all the facts before accusing commentators! ;)
Hi! Great blog.
ReplyDelete-John
Hola! Love your blog, man! Thanks for doing it!
ReplyDelete-tina
sara, it just seemed so unbelievable, you know?
ReplyDeleteyou all can vote in my poll!!
ReplyDeleteOk, I actually know French so what is up with all the fake French on this site? Even your commentators are speaking in fake French.
ReplyDeletePeople--if you don't know French and are writing on an English blog, write in English! If when you speak French you can only speak like a Spanish cow, I would suggest not posting it on the Internet where real French people can read it!
Point taken, though it confirms the stereotype!!
ReplyDeleteWe're trying to learn French, Jean Paul. It'd be better if you tried to correct us rather than shutting us up.
Besides, there's not really that much fake French on my blog. Yes, that second sentence of the translation was wrong (& I barely know French) but that's not that much French. Thank goodness America's a free country.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't going to comment, but something you said made me HAVE to.
ReplyDelete"America's a free country"
The Internet isn't run by America. While certain countries have the power to censor or block certain sites from their citizens, that really doesn't have to do with what you or the original commentator was talking about. And no country would block its citizens from...posting poorly written French on the Internet.
So why did you make the comment that America is a free country, which seems to be completely irrelevant to the current discussion (namely, the French person--though that he was French was your assumption, based on your statement about confirming the stereotype. He could easily just live in a francophone country or even just have a French name and KNOW French, which isn't that unusual. He never actually said he was French--criticized your and the other commentator's poor French)? Especially considering you're supposedly saying America's a free country in juxtaposition with France, which is also a free country. So I'm curious about what your point is, exactly.
And as far as free speech goes, that just gives you the right to say something. It doesn't justify what your saying or prevent people from criticizing you for saying it. People can still object to the substance of your remarks, the context in which you said it, and indeed your grammar. I'm sorry, but it annoys me when people argue that "it's a free country and I have free speech so I can say whatever I want." It is and you do, but that also means people have the right to say whatever they want in response to you. If you're going to blog and ask for comments, you're going to have to accept that you're not always going to like them, and when you receive comments you don't like, bringing up freedom of speech is rarely the best way to justify your original comments.
I assume this is a great comment. Don't have time to read it right now, but I will when I can. Thanks for the effort you obviously put in.
ReplyDeleteI was "right" (another commenter mentioned the whole "wise people admit they know nothing" thing)-this was a great comment. Thanks for saying what you said...it definitely adds to the discussion.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I want to respond to as well.
For one thing, I never said I didn't like the comment. I was civil.
I like how you put supposedly before "saying America's a free country in juxtaposition with France" because that would have also been fair grounds to complain.
To answer your question about what my point was...well...I'm not sure. Guess my brain wasn't working properly at that moment. It happens. Good thing my name isn't associated with this blog, right? People do make mistakes, and I am a person, therefore, I too, make mistakes. You do not need to apologize for your comment, unless you really feel you want to.
Ok, I'm done being civil...I'm crabby and my headache's coming back. Won't vent it here tho.
And seriously, I only wrote one stinkin' sentence in French that was off-the-wall-wrong. The person could have taken it as a joke. I mentioned that it was coming from a free translation service...it was obviously going to be awful. Is that a better argument than "it's a free country"? I just don't like it when people shun other people who attempt to use other languages. Sure, the person who posted their comment in "fake French" as we can call it could have admitted that they are not good at French. At least that person who complained about the French was civil about it. Good for them.
ReplyDelete& P.S. (tho PS doesn't really apply here...w/e) my friend thinks you rock. i thought you were her for a moment.
ReplyDeleteactually ps would apply here...b/c it just means post script, and blog text counts as script, right?
ReplyDeleteNon solet legere hoc blogem. Sed mallo scribere in lingua latina in interneta. Valete!
